Greetings! My name is Aubrey Ybarra and I’m the Kindergarten teacher at St. Anne School. I am from Sterling and attended the Catholic school system in the area from pre-school all the way through high school. After I graduated from Newman, I attended Sauk Valley Community College for a year and then transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. There I received my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.
Ever since I was five I’ve known that I wanted to be a teacher. I think it was the combination of having a teacher who taught with a hands-on approach and the fact that every day I was offered chocolate milk. Throughout my college education I had an interest in incorporating technology into my lessons. There is always a new approach or activity being created to engage students in the learning process. One of my favorite activities is to use QR codes. Students use their iPads to scan a code that sends them to a story I want them to listen to or a fun fact about a topic we are learning.
